The successful contractor for the Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) Kingston Dock project, Coco Paving Inc, has begun with the work for the reconstruction of the Kingston Docks along Ontario Street.
The purpose of this project is to provide improvements to the existing Kingston ferry dock as well as to improve current ferry operations and to accommodate the new ferry. The project scope will include new passenger, utility and service buildings, upgrading mooring and docking facilities, additional marshalling spaces on the dock as well as pedestrian and cycling facilities.
The work will be staged over three years, while maintaining the ferry service throughout the duration of the project. Work started in September 2020. The first year will focus on constructing the south half of the new dock and pier, allowing for entry and exit points to be used for current ferry users. During the second stage, the central portion of the dock will be under construction, and during the third stage, ferry operation will be moved to the newly constructed secondary loading/unloading ramp to allow for work to begin on the north end of the dock.
This project is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2025.
